NEXUS BETWEEN HEAD OF SCHOOL MOTIVATIONAL INDICATORS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS' JOB PRODUCTIVITY IN MAGU DISTRICT TANZANIA

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to find out the nexus between school head motivational variables and indicators of teachers' job productivity in secondary schools in Magu District of Tanzania. The study adopted a qualitative and quantitative approach. Correlation research design was used for the study. Two (2) statement of hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The population of the study comprised 748 teachers, 40 heads of the schools, and 5 district education officers in Magu District of Tanzania. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 5 schools out of 40 schools in the District. Using 20%, 150 teachers, 8 heads of the schools and 5 district education officers in the District were selected as the sample size (totaling 159 respondents). A questionnaire and in-depth interview were used to elicit information from the respondents. The questionnaire tagged “School Head Motivational Indicators of Teachers' Job Productivity Questionnaire (SHMITJPQ)” was design for teachers to elicit their responses to provision of a conducive work environment and regular promotion as it relate to their job productivity. The in-depth interviews were for heads of the schools and district education officers in the Magu District to inquire on how they motivate their staffs as well as teachers’ job productivity. Analysis was conducted using the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient on SPSS. The finding of the study revealed that there was significant relationship between provision of a conducive work environment, regular promotion of teachers and teacher’s job productivity in the study area. It was recommended among others that teachers should be regularly paid their remuneration, and conducive work environment should be created to enhance teacher’s job
